The 32nd season of the Avedis Chamber Music Series opens on February 12
with our annual All Bach concert featuring some of his best known works with flute.
The majestic Trio Sonata from The Musical Offering is followed by the beautiful
B minor Orchestral Suite, especially known for its spirited Polonaise and Badinerie.
Désirée Goyette returns this season to sing two magnificent arias from the
St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion, and the program concludes with
the monumental Brandenburg Concerto No. 5.

The March 19 program opens with an early Romantic trio by
Kaspar Kummer followed by Robert Beaser’s spirited Mountain Songs based on
American folk songs, with David Tanenbaum, guitar and Alexandra Hawley, flute.
Well-known Bay Area pianist Jeffrey LaDeur joins Avedis this season in two brilliant
trios for flute, viola and piano with Hawley and violist Paul Hersh, contrasting
the French elegance of Duruflé and rich, velvet sonorities of Nikolayeva.

On May 14 acclaimed pianist and San Francisco Symphony Principal Keyboard
Robin Sutherland returns to join the Stanford Woodwind Quintet in two French masterpieces
including Jean-Michel Damase’s Quartet and Louise Farrenc’s beautifully Romantic
Sextet. The Quintet is joined by Carlos Ortega and Rufus David Olivier in d’Indy’s
sparkling septet Chanson et Danses and by Ortega in Janacek’s brilliant sextet, Mládí.

The June 4th concert highlights two exquisite French works – Debussy’s well-known
Sonata for flute, viola and harp and Ravel’s poignant Chansons madécasses,
featuring Désirée Goyette. The program opens with a quintet by Andreas Romberg,
a contemporary of Beethoven and ends with the richly romantic Quintet of
Joseph Jongen, tinged with Impressionism.
