The 33rd season of the Avedis Chamber Music Series opens with the Stanford
Woodwind Quintet celebrating its 30th year. Joining the quintet on this program are
soprano Désirée Goyette, harpist Emily Laurance and pianist Paul Hersh.
Concertino for harp and winds, by Viennese composer, Joseph Weigl, in the
style of Beethoven, opens the program. Désirée Goyette joins the ensemble
in Joseph Canteloube’s glorious Cinq Chants d’Auvergne, based on folksongs
from that region. The second half of the program features the Quintet with
pianist Paul Hersh, the poignant sextet of English composer Gordon Jacob
contrasted with the rich romanticism of Theodor Blumer’s sextet.
